Question about Stock Springs

I have a 98' 2.5 with about 140,000 miles on it. Still with the original springs. I found what I thouhgt was a pretty good deal on some new springs off a 05' TJ with less than 500miles on them for $40. My question......Is it a pretty good chance that my current originals are sagging any?? I know the front is probably a little bit becasue the front end is leaning forward a little bit. But do you think I will see any increase in the jeeps height at all?? Also, can I expect to feel ANY difference when on the road?? Thank u kindly!! :)

I guarantee the fronts are saggin. Mine are just as old and teh fronts sit 2" lower than the rear. As for teh back, they HAVE to be saggin a little after that many years of supporting that kind of weight.

I am not positive but didnt the suspension change to factory coilovers in the later model years? I am not sure those 04s will go on your 90's TJ.

I haven't heard of the newer models going to coilovers. Can anyone confirm this??

Info given when I bought them:
"Used but great shape set of factory Jeep Wrangler coil springs. Springs were removed from an 06 6 cylinder Jeep because a lift kit was installed. These springs have less than 500 miles on them. Replace your worn out springs with these nice ones for a fraction of the new cost. Includes 2 front and 2 rear springs. Will fit 97-06 Jeep Wranglers."

I would go for it then.. Cuz it wont change yoru ride at all and it sounds like a good buy.

You can always resell them if they don't fit.

I'm gonna get them. I think I'm gonna wait til I get some new shocks too since they're original also, and install everything at once. Isn't there some shocks that work for 0"-2" of lift?? I'm probably gonna get coil spacers and put them in too when I do the install so I can get a couple more inches....

For the price of shocks, a spacer lift and those stock springs, you could buy a rustys 2" spring lift...

Anyone know how well the Rustys shocks ride, compared to OME?? If they're not "GREAT" as I have heard OME is, then I was just gonna get these springs and four OME shocks for around $260, so including the $40 for the springs I'm getting this would total $300 and this way I would have the shocks I want. I have a baby on the way so I'm lookin for the most comfortable ride possible..... Any ideas where to get the best deal on OME shocks??? Thanks again!!

Oh yea, I guess with adding the cost of the coil spacers it would put it up another $40 to $60 depending on the deal I can find at the time.

One more question: Does anyone know of a shock thats rides anything like the OME that might not be as expensive?

jherrin215 07-27-2007 02:18 PM

Those springs will fit and you will be able to tell a difference with them on. You should get a little better handling characteristics as well I would think. As for the OME question, I know everyone around here always suggests Dirk from DPGoffroad. I don't know about the different feel from the different shocks but I am sure anything that's not super stiff will ride better than the stockers with 140000 on them!!

Walkeraviator 07-27-2007 02:44 PM

I keep hearing guys with BBs talkin about how much stiffer they are than springs from rustys... is that true?

I would think it depends on what shocks and springs ya have on with the it since a BB comes in various brands right?? So it seems like the stiffness would vary depending on the shocks and what not...... I'm always in the learning process so someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

If you need springs I have all my stock stuff sitting in the garage my 04 had 24,000 miles on it but had no sage to them. I want them gone out of the garage need room you can have them for shipping cost. I don't know if that is worth it but you can have them if you want. Or any one can I don't care.

Triple88a 07-27-2007 04:53 PM

I've heard rustys rides really soft.

Thanks Chad P, but I already paid for the ones listed above earlier today. Plus, I'm think I'm gonna get some good quality shocks instead of OEM. Thanks again for the offer though!!

So is softer better as far as comfort?? I get offroad a few times a year. It's mostly my dd to and from work.

Triple88a 07-27-2007 09:23 PM

yes confort.. :) i was planning on getting a 3" rustys but instead went ahead and just got a 3" FT kit since it came with a trackbar and few more extras rustys didnt have (just for 100 bucks more).

nicolas-eric 07-27-2007 09:45 PM

my 2" BB with rancho RS5000 shocks is smoother than the stock springs and stock shocks.
