1990 4.2 ....just got gauges working and found a new problem...when at idle charging mid range on gauge...turn on air and voltage drops almost to red...turn on head lights with AC slight additional drop and interior lights dim...had Alternator checked bad diode so I replaced it with 73 amp OEM size for 4.2 with AC...Battery checked good...with the new Alternator no change....tested between Positive and Neg cables, with out battery hooked up, and have continuity between cables..pulled fuses one at a time checking for short, no change in continuity...What am I missing?
What i would do is clean up all the contacts from the battery to what ever they go to starter, block, alt etc. if that doesnt clear it up run a 4 guage wire from the positive on the alt to the battery.
