A good place to start is where you just did. Is there fresh fuel in it? Disconnect the fuel line from the carb and see if fuel is reaching there. If it is, start looking into the carb for answers.

It must be a good kind of gay though.....;) vents keep the water out of your oily spaces on the jeep. They put them up high so that you can do things like ford through water and not have to change...

Been there, done that. The good news is that Sears doesn't ask questions when you bring in the busted ratchet for replacement.....they just hand you a new (or rebuilt) one...
