Most likely coming from the weep hole on the water pump. Its an early warning that its going to go soon. Replace it asap. make sure you get the correct rotation.

Get an angle locator, mock axle perches and springs up loose. Check angles, tack perches, take it out and weld it.

You need a sye if you are going to wheel like that. Shorter shocks are not the answer. Use limiting straps/chains or get some bumpstops to accommodate.

U joints can make all kinds of noise. I wouldn't rule those out yet. Check the brake dust shields to. Sometimes a rock can get in there.

You need to be in neutral. I shift to 4lo then roll/ reverse back 5-10ft then going forward you can feel it engage. Check the linkage out too, spray with some PB or wd40.
