"Hidden hitch" is longer than OEM. That's what I have for the same reason. It's not so long that you'd have to worry about walking into it.

I have the exact same issue. Took it in and they said it's normal. I have never experienced this on any other auto trans. I think I'll take it back again until they do something about it.
