Temp guage bouncing

I have an 88 YJ with a ton of miles on it. Still runs great, but the temp gauge started bouncing. Is this more than likely the sensor or the gauge itself? Any help is appreciated.

Now if I could get more power out of this little 4 banger and better mileage, the gas gauge would be the least of my concerns. Maybe a header and intake spacer.

The gas gauge in my 88 YJ bounces all over the place. I've read that the sending unit might be bad, I've also read that the gauge itself might be bad. Who has had this happen and what did you do to...
