Yeah its a ax-5 and I will say i didn't pull the plug all the way out. Just loosened it to make sure I could get it removed before I drained all my fluid.

I loosened it and then pulled the drain plug from the bottom and 6 quarts of black oil came out. never seen anything like it.

I have an ax-5 transmission. Why would there be 6 quarts of gear oil in it? How will this affect it?

Thanks guys. Want to go with Redline but because of time and only being able to find it online I went with royal purple 75w-90. Honestly I think anything in this tranny is better than what it had....

I believe y'all are right. I think like most things with this jeep the PO neglected making it right and did whatever was cheaper. Poor Jeep. Here is a picture of what came with this jeep.
