There is a lot of amperage going through those wires. What size are they? Can you jump the starter from the solenoid? If so you should just run a 12v lead from fuse to button and button to solenoid.

The carrier, ring, and spiders are shot, I'm sure the pinion is too. Count teeth on the ring and pinion and divide. the 37 should be the ring, 9 the pinion. 37/9=4.11.

You should be more worried about the "c-channel"...

You should be more worried about the "c-channel" under the tub. Make sure the drains on those are clear. The body mount bolts go into captive nuts in there. When they rust out and spin it sucks.

My 89 2.5 on 33's with 4.56 will pull 16mpg doing fairly short trips, 15 miles or less. The tbi works fine.

A rebuild kit would be good but ya gotta split the case and see what you need. Quadratec sells it all. If you have a good set of snap ring pliers it won't be bad.
