I prefer the look (off) of the first generation units, but the second are believed to be more reliable and just all around better. I don't have either, and have not been able to justify the cost yet.

It doesn't look bad. It looks like an ordinary matte black overlay, basically.. but the texture is sort of a mildly rough rubbery finish, and IMO it's difficult to clean.
