I've had both. I love driving my manual as a daily driver but when I'm on harder trails, I sometimes wish for my auto back. So I would say it really depends on how you plan to use it.

Water does not expire. It can be contaminated but that is a problem with the source of the water or a poorly cleaned container. As far as the chlorine, it's a good thing if it off gasses...why...
