THIS^^^^ When my 35 gave up, it was the carrier that grenaded. The center pin punched through the differential cover and I replaced the axle all together. The C-Clips were in beautiful shape though...

Mine were reading slow too. My 05 had bad...

Mine were reading slow too. My 05 had bad catalytic converters at 20,000 miles... Hole burned clean through the catalyst. It still ran fine too.

Use an Impact wrench. Let some air out of the tire. I will take stress off of the lug nuts... If the tire is pressing hard against the rubber bumpers on the tailgate (IIRC the YJ has those too)

What rear end do you have? If its a Dana 35, I would look to make a swap for a stronger axle. With 35's and a five speed, I'd go for the 4.88.
