I found aluminum shavings in my 95 YJ tank back when I did my first engine swap. I cleaned them out and have not found any additional shavings the 3 times that I have been into the tank since.

Yep, the black box is the combination buzzer. I would take a good look at the tail light wiring, especially if you have a trailer light pigtailed in.

Take a look and see if this looks like the right circuit. The DB/W wire is 15 amp fused and powers the instrument cluster. This will give you a rough idea where to look.

The combination buzzer if your jeep has one is at the bottom the fuse box. If the buzzer isn't there it just looks like a receptacle (white plastic on mine). It seems to be a popular place to tie in...

Even simple problems rarely end up simple. Most likely the problem is problem in the gauge cluster or a failed tach. Followed by a corroded wire terminal or failed wire between the PCM and the gauge....

Go with the vacuum advance. Non-advance distributors might be great for racing, but not for road driving or trail riding. Road performance and fuel economy will both be improved with vacuum advance.

I see a plug for an optional under hood light (laying near the battery), a TCC relay socket and something that looks like a vacuum line fitting possibly.
