I am thinking that this was the issue. I bought the Mobil 1 equivalent of thw PH-16 and it went right on. Issue resolved. And the guys at the auto store did give me the wrong part numbers for the oil...

I dont see how that would seal. I could put my finger in between the gasket and threads and feel the metal holes (which would pour out oil) if it actually fit on the threads.
