Thanks for the heat sink tip! I don't mind the spark shower that much, I just hate crappy welds! I guess I will just do new channels upside down. I can't think of another way to do the job correctly....

I really wouldn't mind recreating the channels--its the attaching them that I am worried about. I have a hell of a time welding upside down and don't have a rotisserie to flip the body over.
