I do that all the time, using a bungee cord (very short one) from the folded seat to the soft top bracket on the roll bar. I haven't had a problem yet.

I did something similar in a Trailblazer years back. I have also seen an older Jeep on the highway with a fork mount on the front bumper. I'd hate to pick bugs out of my chain!
