I would upgrade the tire carrier to accommodate the added weight. Teraflex makes a great one. If you change the bumper, quite a few manufacturers make bumper mounted tire carriers.

They both would handle the exact same weight since it's the bumper itself that carries the load. The door link or "traditional" is only for convenience.
