I wish I saw this sooner. I was able to pull it out by forcing it. Needless to say, that piece is not getting reinstalled. Way too much effort for a useless piece.

This may not be the answer you are hoping for, but I would say the multifunction switch as well. I had a similar issue where the fog lights would come on if I turned them on, but would also come on...
