If it was the original battery that is probably the problem Batteries are only good for 4 maybe 5 years. When they start to go they cause the electrical system to do strange things.

Mine did the same thing. Replace part of the filler tube underneath going into the tank and it will take care of the issue. 30 minute fix with simple hand tools once you get the part.

When the batteries in these Jeeps start to go bad it causes all kinds of electrical problems. My guess is it is the original battery and it is starting to go bad.

Pull the panels and lube up all the seals. Also try playing with the tightness (is that a word?) of the big screws that go into the panels. If too tight mine creak, if too loose they rattel.
