This is what I'm thinking, the 2 pieces on top will be cut at a 45 and will be gussets along with another going right to left under the tail gate.

Did some cutting and tacking this afternoon, I like it! I need to cut the bumper off the pieces of frame removed, it seems pretty stout so I'll reuse it.
