I'm not sure if there is an auto for the 2.4 (03-06 I think) but the 2.5 (97-02 TJ) definitely does a buddy bought one a few years back and sank it. The 2.5 is also more reliable from what I've seen.

I'm not a fan of torque converters because I feel like you end up having to give more gas before it catches and can send you flying forward. Especially when it's hot or worn, it makes easy stuff...

The rubicon will save you about 4-5k with the gears and lockers if you go with 35s. Also the rock rails are another 200 or so. If it were me I'd get an LJ rubicon, but that's just preference.

From what I've seen mig seems like the way to go, but tig might be useful if it's an emergency on the trail. Like a ripped control arm bracket or track bar.
