I agree, go with the motorcraft 2100 or even a holley. I had the weber 34 and it was junk out of the box. I went Holley and love it.

I would have to say the only way I would swap in a 305 or 350 would be if it were the later injected vortec motor. The older computer controlled carbed 5.0's are junk. I would look for a 87 up 4wd...

Is it carb or FI? Nothing wrong with the 5.0. They do have issue with valve guides and seals with high mileage. Look for the blue smoke on cold start-up. I also think the 2wd 700R4 won't work for 4wd...

You will get lots of opinions. If it were me I would stick with a 6cyl. However the good thing about the early 4cyl is that they are injected. With your plans the 6cyl will will be a better match....

The block is not the same. Again the 2.5 dakota is based on the dodge 2.2/2.5 engines found in K cars. The 2.5 in the Jeep is based on the AMC motor used before dodge bought jeep. Totally different,...

Not even close to being the same. The 2.5 in the dakota is the same basic engine used in the front wheel drive K cars. The 2.5 Jeep engine was only used in jeeps.
