Goodyear MTRs are excellent tires especially for rock crawling where you live on CO. I have a set on my rig and consider them the best offroader tires I've ever used.

There is no reason to replace the rear axle instead of just rebuilding. You can swap in a D35 but you will most likely need to make changes to the driveshaft.
