Oil will be either blue or black depending on how much is being burned.
Keep an eye on your trans fluid. check any vacuum lines going to the trans.

It would be fun to build one from scratch but I lack any semblance of welding skills and I don't think a wooden bumper is a good idea.

If it gets quieter when you hit the gas it's not the belt slipping on anything.
I would try turning the AC on before the belt tensioner. If it stops you know it's the AC clutch that's responsible.
