You really do need an SWR meter so you can properly tune the antenna and ensure you aren't damaging your radio when you transmit. Agree the stud mount is a good possibility, though.

I had a couple of issues prior to the last software update where sometimes upon powering up it wouldn't ever hit wifi or a cell tower, but haven't had that issue after the update.

Yes, the gasket is part of the housing with H4s. I certainly wouldn't recommend going back to stock, but I would recommend replacing the KCs with a glass e-code housing such as Hella, IPF, or Bosch....
