Just measured. They only stick out 3.25" from body sheet metal. With approx. 2.5" of useable step, since it is a round bar.
Probably too easy to slip if you try and use it as step.

I do not know how to reset it, since I have the dealer change my oil every 6 months...

May get very expensive to use Fiat spec 5w-30 as an alternative...
