There should be no issues with damaging the axles. There wouldn't be enough heat generated since you wouldn't be welding very long in any one spot.

I ran the same size on Toyo Mt's on my daily driver. I got 5 years and over 50k miles on them. Did great off road and on the street. I ended up buying another set in a 10.5 so save a little on weight.
