I had this problem last winter. Previously I had put one of the Autozone thermostats into the Jeep that sticks open if it fails. Replaced it with a conventional one and my problem went away.

The strut compressor fits on the outside as opposed to the spring compressor on the ID of the spring. Strut compressor is easier to use.
