I also found the throttle spring to be light. Any erratic movement of the pedal would induce the bucking. I didn't change anything other than adapting to the throttle pedal.

YMMV. There's only ~160 rpms difference between the two at 80 mph. With the increased size/mass as well as other additional weight I'd rather have more gear than less.
