Easiest solution is to purchase/rent a portable generator that has a 220 outlet built in.... not that expensive in the power range you are needing....

If you are going to install the 8.8, try canting the pumpkin UP a bit to eliminate the need for a SYE............Had a CJ5 that I did...

As to starting issues, could be butterfly idle setting has changed.......

I own several torque wrenches...... have NEVER used one on lugs.......

Could be low on clutch fluid...... if not, slave could be faulty.....could be master cylinder not actuating properly.... could ALSO be synchro gears on 3 and 4.....

Pretty sure you are gonna need a Throw out bearing, DIFFERENT bell housing, slave cylinder, master cylinder, clutch line, bearing fork, clutch disk, pressure plate, and POSSIBLY a new flywheel......
