My '01 will beep like that if I open the door while the key is still in the ignition.
But if I remove the key before I open the door it won't beep.
Maybe that's what it is...

If the Jeep in question has an open differential, you only need to raise one wheel & spin that wheel...

A new blower motor resistor should fix the blower issue.
Then check all ground connections and see if your gauge gremlins go away (hopefully)

Yes, a bad ground could have been the cause of your erratic shifting.
The PCM is what controls the locking & unlocking of the torque converter.
If it's shifting ok now, you may have found & fixed...
