Mines 52" which makes it about the width of the windshield. I think 42" would look fine if it ran the same height as the windshield frame, might look funny if it sat higher than the top. JMHO

The 4.88's may not be low enough for the 2.5, or they may be fine. I run 4.56 with my 4.0 and its fine. I'm just not sure how the 2.5 would do. It's the D35 that would be the problem. I had the D35...

I wouldn't if you still have the D35 in back, 33's is about tops for that rear end. If you go 8.8 or D44 then 35's are fun. There are other areas that will need attention with 35's. Brakes for one,...

Yep, look for a matching plastic spout from the A/C vent. The axle vent hoses don't go inside the jeep, the front goes over by the radiator, the rear up by the gas tank filler.

Yes you can do John Bull with 33's. When I lived up there I did it regularly with 32's and only an LSD in back. It will teach you to read lines better and make you an overall better off road driver....

I've had my Borla SS headers for about 15 years on my 4.0. It was the only engine mod that I could tell made a differance.

Whoops, I forgot putting in MSD wires, that made a noticeable differance...

Both the community college and 4wd club are good places to start, but what I have found out is that with a good shop book and a desire to learn you can do a lot by just diving in. The nice thing...

Good advice so far. I don't see what motor you have which makes a differance. If you have the 4.0 then 3.73 or 4.10 will move you along just fine, if you have the 2.5 I'd go 4.10 or lower. Before you...

If you got 2.5" of lift with shackles your shock decision is the least of your worries. A 1" shackle lift is the max without throwing off your caster too extreme. Better to do a 1" shackle and 1"...

My understanding is there is no real benifit for the 2.5, the 4.0 gets help with a header, but the stock 2.5 manifold is good enough that after market gives no noticeable improvement.

Can't believe I'm suggesting this, but since this will only be on the road. Get some 15x10" wheels with 3.75 backspace. That will give you about 2" more on each side because of the backspace, and...

What you're talking about is not going to be a run of the mill jeep. I'd leave the axle width for a wider stance, if you have to cover the tires, it's going to take some flares. Going the 4.0 or V8...

Another few incidentals, you'll need new u- bolts and spring plates, the D44 can have different size tubes so measure. My Currie front D44 has 3" tubes with one side needing 3.5 inch around the...

There are a couple of spots where you can fit a wrench into the frame and hold the nut. The front driver side on mine is stripped so I just tape a nut onto a wrench and put the bolt into it.

I need more info. What motor do you intend to run? Will it keep the same tire size and lift? Is this mostly an off-road toy, or a daily driver? Spring perches, emergency brake cables, and any other...

I wouldn't think so. They are pretty simple and the area they normally give out on is the expanding boot which blows its seal. I've never seen any other failure than losing fluid.

If it's leaking it should be dripping from the bell housing. Bleeding is a pain, I did it several times to get it right.

Not if the insides look okay. Just sand them down or use a wire wheel. I then use high temp black paint on the outside, they last pretty well that way.

I'd take a spare u joint for the DS and front axle. I also carry a big C clamp to press out the old U joint and press in the new.
