You need a locking plate compressor tool, cost about 8 bucks. The locking plate is the metal slotted disc.

I broke mine doing the same thing. You can JB weld it back together. Just make sure it's real clean first. Mine seems to be holding OK.

I can't see it well enough. Could you get some close ups of the windshield channel and some of how tight the top is against the soft top frame. It needs to be very tight.
