No, it would be the full 0.5". We're not dealing with the center of the rim, just an offset from the inside edge, which happens to be the center on an 8" wide rim, but it's not the center on one...

Let me rephrase what I said. I don't like how far it will stick out past the fender. Because of the extra .5" of width, it will stick out the same distance as a wheel with 4" backspacing.
