It could also be in the axle. Easy to check, just put it in gear and try to go. Have someone watch the driveshaft to see if it turns. If it does, it's in the axle somewhere. I had this problem before...

The exhaust down pipe on my jeep just broke off, right below where it attaches to the manifold. The bolts holding the remaining small part of the downpipe to the manifold are stuck in pretty good....
