Thats not true... you should she crash test footage of the SMART Car. The US's test center for vehicle safety rated the Smart Car "very well" in all crash test just recently. I wouldn't mind having a Smart, but I'd have to convert it to a Smartuki.

Nope, this car from the video was made back in the 60s but today their cars are safer than my jeep man. Its much easier to make a car safer that weights 1500lb vs a car that weights 5000lb. One would crush because of the weight while the other one will remain in tact.

here we go enjoy 157mpg
Honestly i'd trade in my jeep for one of these in my sleep even though i love that thing.

That is a slow speed crash, check out the 65mph test, you'll understand why it only got a 3/5 in European safety tests.

thats what they all say, you have great steel bumpers. I feel the same way thats great but what happens to the other car??? Look into where building bigger and heavier vehicles have gotten us. NO WHERE.

trip.. its soo small that the airbag would kill you when it deployed.. plus with all the big @$$ trucks in america.. if you were hit by one, itd just run right over you..

ill stick with my jeep anyday.. i feel safer in it than any other car my family owns..

heck for the cost of one of those cars.. you could drop a 4 cyl diesel into your jeep.. didnt a guy on the forum do that and gets like 30 mpg

you "feel" safer but is that the case? The body gets twisted like it has no structure when in fact its the extra weight thats the main problem.

Cant find any more than this one of a yj.. maybe jeep didnt release any TJ ones?

ive been tboned buy my neighbor going 35 mph..

funny thing is i never fixed where he hit me, well i did get a tiny dent in my door that the guy at the body shop popped out for me for $20.. ill take pics of it tomorrow.. we were on ice so i think thats why it didnt damage as much.. i didnt have much traction so my jeep moved with his truck.

he hit me with an old 98 silverado.. he did break my factory side step tho.. wish i would of had rocker rails on the side.. would f'd his shit up more than it did..

ive had the front fender of my jeep ran into also at about 40 mph.. it only bend the fender, and the fender flare was trashed.. thats about it.. no hood damage and a slight bend in my front bumper

Now thats funny! Its like they serve more purposes or protect the driver better or anything

From the Majority of National Academy of Sciences committee on the
Effectiveness and Impact of Corporate Average Fuel Economy
(CAFE) Standards:
—“The downweighting and downsizing [of vehicles] that occurred
in the late 1970s and early 1980s, some of which was due to
CAFE standards, probably resulted in an additional 1,300 to
2,600 traffic fatalities in 1993.”

According to 2005 statistics collected by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), very large sport utility vehicles, like the Dodge Durnago and the Chevrolet Suburban, have the lowest death rates on the road—about 24 occupants killed for every million registered vehicles no more than three years old. At the other end of the spectrum are mini cars, such as the Mini Cooper or the Toyota Yaris. As a group, they average 144 deaths per million registered vehicles. Midsize SUVs, including the Honda Pilot or Nissan Pathfinder, average 57 deaths, while midsize cars, like the Ford Fusion and Honda Accord, run as high as 70 deaths per million vehicles. Average things out and you are, on the whole, safer in an SUV than you are in a passenger car—their death rate ratio is 47 per million compared to 86. (2005

I'll take my vehicles above tire height please

They don't make a 3Dr hatch, they make a 5Dr. Which is pretty cool looking, but I think I like the sedans better.

Rigid vehicles has no crumple zone and your body will be a crumple zone on impact. there has been more vehicle deaths in the 90's/when the productions of SUV came about. Forgot there I read the statistics.

Around here I see accidents on the news, and the car with 4 teens in it has 3/4 dead while the middle aged couple in the 1500 don't even go to the hospital. i don't remember the last truck death. Think of it this way as well, more weight= more momentum= Your truck doesn't come to a dead stop if you hit a car, you push into the car, your airbag deploys while the other car is absorbing your momentum and taking the damage. Thats why my physics professor says he drives a truck.

Well, back on topic...

The deed is done. And although I came out well, and my conservative calculations indicate I will save around $8-11K minimum, over the next 5 years (since TJ was DD), I can't be too hard on myself. The shocking part was when I charted it, I am doubling my term, and still netting that gain, and likely 15% more. So, got a very sweet (relatively speaking in girl car terms) black 07 Altima with CVT tranny. Although, I still want to throw up, I am comfortable with the economic impact. Now, the planning begins on my next rig....hmmm...trailer queen that is still street legal...the possibilities. I'll load some pics of the new "jeep" in a few days. I told the wife I'm putting "Rubicon" stickers on the hood! May have to upgrade to some AT's too!

This is what I did to combat high gas prices...

http://www.performancebike.com/shop/...estore_ID=1586

I ride to work 2-3 days a week depending on the wheather. It's saving me 40-60% of my commuting gas bill.

i got into this thread kinda late and i dont even have a TJ yet..but guess what, im still gonna buy one no matter what gas does. I dont give a F*#% what the gas mileage is on a jeep with 35s and lots of armor. Me enjoying the vehicle im driving, not having some huge payment and having a capable rig is more than enough to make me buy a jeep. ill just flip off the gas pump everytime i drive past
