Unhappy :( I'm afraid the time may be near...

...the expense of fueling the TJ has outweighed the satisfaction and joy of ownership. Well, not really, that's not possible. But the dang gas is killing me and I think I'm going to look into selling/trading it.

My commute is costing me over $20/day and don't have the time, (and thanks to the freakin gas), don't have the money to enjoy it like it deserves. I hit the wall when I left work today. I had put $35 in the tank when I left work yesterday. Drove straight home. Then drove straight to work this AM. When I got in this afternoon and cranked her up...ding! Low fuel light THIRTY FIVE FREAKIN DOLLARS TO GO HOME AND WORK IN LESS THAN 24 HRS. That's just straight up BS.

Keep my jeep in your prayers as we go down this dark journey toward the possibility of non-jeepedness in the coming days.

Thats a hell of a commute! Good luck with what you deside. If you dont own anything on your jeep and can afford a car payment go buy a civic or something like that, that gets good gas milage for the commute.

I really feel you.. I pay 300 a month and 240 for insurance, and about 300 a month on gas.. 800 a month just to barely drive the jeep.. I enjoy driving it but I with i COULD DRIVE IT MORE DUE TO GAS.. I am actually looking for a geo metro, civic, etc.. but they trippled the price and are over blue book since gas went up so high.. I paid almost 18dollars for my motocycle today. It is a recreational ride but, man I never went over 13 bucks.. gas and living expense is killing me..

Bpowa get something small and do a pure electric engine swap.

Those guys convert lambos, ferraries, porches and whatever else they find exotic to electrics.

that sucks
I have been going back and forth on selling my jeep
but I would be getting the 4 door jeep I just dont like the new motor
its great for a cummuter but every one I know hates having to get the rpms up so high just to get into the torq band

but on the bright side chrysler has a $3 per gallon gas for three years
so maybe you need to trade in your jeep for a newer one

man I am not going to spend more money to build an electric cas.. hahaha.. shit like that are for the fofo's who have money to begin with and nothing to do.. heck if it cost 2-300 dollars to get an electric modification going I would nut it does not.. I am trying to find a geo metro for under 1k to outweigh gas prices, for commuting, and enjoy the jeep for fun trips.

BTW geo metros here in ca go anywhere for 1500 for an old beat up early 90's model.. an average/clean '95 metro goes for 3-4k... what do they go for else where? I know they were goung for 5-600 dollars a year and a half ago.

fuel is 4.88 plus 5% sales tax here, went through 3 tanks out wheeling last weekend alone.....ouch its painful to fill a little heep up for 100 bucks every day,
one weekend of wheeling= ferry ticket 114 dollars, 3 tanks of fuel 300 dollars, day off work to take ferry $$$, wheeling just last weekend cost me over 600+, without breaking anything. and thats not counting ammunition and food.
but they will never take my heep from my cold, dead, hands.
id rather push my jeep than drive a hybrid

metros are usually in the 300 dollar range here, along with dodge colt(my moms gets over 40 mpg).
disposable wheels, my mom used to have 2 colts, till i high centered one in the drive way(no big deal right) when i went to plow the driveway later i just rammed it with my 3/4 ton dodge, totaled it. it actually got stuck to my trucks receiver hitch, so i smashed it into a tree to break it loose. man was she pissed at me, i gave her her money back.
she's looking for another one
i think the colt is more stylish than the metro and they are everywhere up here

I tried to sell my Jeep, everyone was REALLY low balling, using gas as an excuse. I feel ya though, I drive 25-30miles a day for work as well.

Motorcycle FTW.

Same here on gas, 87oct is @3.80, did go look at a new JK yesterday.. the 2.99 gas thing from jeep, does not apply to the wrangler..LOL was getting the JK for about 750 below invoice so at least that was decent, but of course trade in was a joke.

Well it's not a done deal, or a certainty, but a probability.
And I will NOT do it, unless it's a deal I just can't ignore (both on the jeep and prospective new vehicle). And ONLY if I net $225/month gain (fuel savings), which I figured is the incentive point. But a little beater DD is first option - main concern with that is an ongoing expense to keep the POS running - which could easily turn counter productive and actually bleeding more money...that's my concern anyway.
This subject really sucks. Excuse me while I go throw up.

our TJ has been demoted to commute duty on days my fiance needs to work, so 2 or 3 days a week i drive it to work. the rest of the time i drive my diesel VW jetta. i haven't been wheeling in well over a year.

I'm looking for a cheap car as well, and it seams like everyone else is too. once i get that commuter the jeep will sit in the garage and collect dust. I have seen TJ's like ours selling for $16-$17k about a year ago, now i bet i would be lucky if i could find a buyer at all, and the price would have to be around $10k. it will sit in my garage before that.

I was searching high and low for a super duty one year ago this month, then i decided i didn't really need something that big. I bought my 50 MPG diesel jetta instead. I would be in deep crap if i bought that superduty with diesel so high.

the 2.99 gallon that jeep offers is a joke..

you loose all discounts and rebates that you can get on a new vehicle.. not to mention it doesnt apply on wranglers.. it only applies for the vehicles they are having a hard time selling..

oh and its 3 yr 36k miles of gas.. 12k miles a year.. and you have to take the time and send in EVERY receipt of gas that you get to the dealership

oh and it only works at participating gas stations

that is part of the reason I am fixing all kinds of crap on my TJ... its just getting too expensive, although a car payment won't be cheap either!!! I am getting concerned cause I have a dabble of oil (by dabble I mean it get to a drop over a period of like 10 days) on my bell housing and being part of the trans I am sure it will be 1-2,000 to get fixed, and right now its not noticeable, might get away with trading her in

man all you have to do is simple green and wipe it off, before a trade in.. you act like dealers dont do that to their certify cars, heck for brake jobd they just do a pad slap.. I know and was working at a shop where outsourced their labor to when they needed to push cars out asap.

yes it is sad.. I only had my jeep for less than a year, and cant really enjoy it due to the jump in gas.. it will only get worse, fellow jeepers.

yeah the gas does suck and a 70 mile commute everyday doesn't help. So generally my rig goes through 2 tanks a week. I'm considering getting an altima or something like that, and keeping the jeep for weekend/fun/wheelin/to the mountains type of stuff. but we'll see

My commute is84 miles round trip each day, a year ago I was spending 410.00 on gas a month. I went out got a used saturn that gets 37mpg. Gas,payment and insurance on the saturn is cheaper then just the gas on the jeep.

The $3 gas from Chrysler is just a ploy, if my math is correct you would not be saving that much money at all, as a matter of fact it would be more beneficial to negotiate a better rebate or a better financing offer then take the gas route, imo

it is gonna be so damn expensive this summer for me, my house it 16 miles out of town so just to town and back is about three gallons, nevermind to my friends houses which are all about 20-25 miles away, and gas up there is MUCH more expensive since there's only one gas station

ugh

Did some looking today. Can get a 07 or 08 Altima (I hate cars and have never had one myself - IN MY LIFE - but these are pretty slick...excuse me while I puke). NEway, can get a damn near brand new one and come out around $300/mo better. Briefly surfed for some beaters and looks like a "decent" one (which is questionable) is already up to around $3-$4K. Not having that cash laying around, it would basically cost me around the same to have a beater and keep the TJ - so no real gain other than humility - may as well keep the TJ and enjoy myself if that was the direction I went. BTW! All of this is with the idea in mind of saving up quite a bit in the next 20+ months and get an 06 Rubi and have a RESF installed with 35's So at least it's not terminal. But again, nothing set in stone yet. Somehow, that doesn't make me feel any better

$20 a day, avg $3.60 a gal, with avg 16 mpg = 44.4 miles one way

I started carpooling with the wife over the winter (used to do it only during snow days) but now we carpool daily in the Honda. The jeep has become a weekend recreation vehicle which sucks 'cause it ain't suppose to be that way.

Traded my old 77 GMC (350) for a POS Escort for my son to drive. At least now a tank lasts him 2 weeks instead of two days.

Someone out there is making the cash on the petro and it certainly isn't me!!!

It's tempting to use my money and buy a 3cyl geometro to drive to school in every day. 50mpg but one ass ugly car.

I've been spending about $600/mon in fuel. My wife works about 2mi from home so I taught her to drive it and now I take her 4cyl car or my bike the 45mi one way to work. But she won't let me sell the Jeep, and I REALLY don't want to.
