had my new JL for less than 24 hours. Then....

Brought Precious home on Friday night and parked her in the garage. She's a 2018 JLU V6 automatic. Later that evening I started her up and I got a message on the instrument cluster that said, "Until You Reach a Desired Location. You May Not Be Able to Shift Again Until Serviced." "Service Transmission Continue in D. Do Not Shift or Turn Engine Off." I turned it off, and it wouldn't turn back on. All the gear lights on the shifter are lit up. Check engine light also turned on.

I disconnected the battery thinking it would reset the issue, but that didn't work. All the power in the cab was still on even though the battery was disconnected. Alternator, or some other component was making a wining noise. Can't turn the Jeep off. Have to let it sit all night...

Saturday morning rolls around, after a long sleepless night, and I go out to the garage to check on her and she still won't start. I called the Roadside Assistance from Chrysler to have them pick it up and take it back to the dealership. The flatbed arrives and I had to manually disengage the automatic transmission and put the 4WD in neutral for it to get put on the flatbed.

As of today, no word from the service department as to what is wrong. Hopefully it's something simple, they can correct it quickly and get it back to me so I can enjoy her. Hopefully this one is not a lemon...

Seems to be several bugs. This is why I would never buy a first year model, especially from FCA.

We were going to order a JL for the wife in 2018, after talking it over and it being a new platform we opted for a brand new JK again instead. We will eventually get a JL or 2, but I'm glad we decided to wait.

Got my new JL back from the dealership.

Had to charge the battery because of malfunction caused the battery to drain completely. Once charged they found these codes:

P062F-00 - Internal Control Module EEPROM Error
P1B12-00 - Park-By-Wire - Unintended Out of Park Position
U0101-08 - Lost Communication with TCM-Bus Signal / Message Failures

Service said it was connector XY230A. Pins 29 and 30 were secure, but found ground Z909 pushed out on female connector. Seated Z909 and reconnected connector. Vehicle starts. No issues.

Glad to hear it's resolved. Check out this post here, not the same issue, but the resolution was a pushed pin on a connector as well.

That sounds eerily like what happened to my '96 Chrysler Concorde in it's first month of service. On the way home one evening shortly after leaving work, the transmission dropped into 2nd (limp mode). I pulled over stopped, turned the ignition off, counted to 30 and restarted. Everything was fine on my 26 mile drive home.

The next morning it happened again, but this time two restarts did not cure the issue. I was upset and had a trip the next day to another plant location and needed my car (which could get high 20's in MPG vs my PU which got 10 on a good day). Called the dealer, the service department came by with a roll back with a loaner and picked my my car. Later that day, not hearing anything, I called. The service manager whom I trusted said they had not gotten to it yet, but did not feel it was a serious issue. Thirty minutes later he called me and said it was a bent pin in the connector to the transmission from the TCM.

On the trip it performed beautifully and I drove it for another 2 years and 50,000 trouble free miles.

Sounds like it got a little homesick for the dealer lot. Least it warned you that the next trip might be your last without service. Glad the fix was easy. I'm sure when building them its easy not to get something plugged in all the way, etc.

Have a 18 JLU and I noted several quality issues with wiring, other items, etc. pins not fully seated and antenna cable near passenger foot area very wonky. Luckily through custom work and upgrades they were found and fixed before an issue.

Whew that was close....good move! One guy has an issue that gets fixed at the dealer and the entire platform should be junked. Because no one ever had an issue with previous years. If you look at the other platform forums you'll see they've all been flawless.

"Would never buy a first year model" is code for can't afford new Jeep.

Not quite true. First year of a new platform is the time they fine tune a vehicle. I know a few people that are close to the plant, and the design had many issues (just as any new year release will). Some of these issues were not a dealer adjust or change item. To say that someone cannot afford a jeep and is using the new model issues as an excuse is not valid.

WOW! Ya think!! How about I can walk into any jeep dealer and buy the best top of the line Rubicon at any time, but I refuse since IT IS THE FIRST MODEL YEAR.

A fool and his money are soon parted usually applies to those who buy the first model OF ANYTHING.

My JKUR has no issues. If anyone has a loaded JLUR and would like to trade it for a reliable JKUR just let me know. I'll do you a huge favor by getting that first year thing off your hands. LOL

Just got my new JLU Sport in January. Drove it over 1000 miles through two winter whiteouts and it's still working. Guess I'm just lucky.

I got rid of my brand new renegade because I had to go back to the dealership 4 times to have a module flush. Technicians are also trying to learn from it. I was like begging my jeep to start everyday for 3 months. and when it starts, there are lots of messages and errors on the dash. I hated that jeep.

I have just over 13K on my '17 and everything works. I love the color (no longer available) and love he white top on it (only special edition with a painted top a different color than the body). Don't plan to trade it any time soon. Maybe in 5 or 6 years I will be tempted.

I hear shellfish, raw fish and under cooked meats are bad too!

Then there was bacon, apples, uncooked eggs, ticks and the measles...

OMG I hope that isn't a 1st year Jeep up there!

mfgr's have gotten so cheap on the parts they buy. and parts producers have gotta so cheap on the parts they make. not to mention 1/2 the new work force can't function without an app for that.........and to top it off it's an over complicated electrical nightmare in a beer can on wheels (<any new vehicle).

i'm 51 and i've know since i was 20 don't the the 1st yr of anything and expect it to be right.........it's a coin flip at best.

i begged my girl not to buy that 1st yr pontiac grand am , but she had to have it, 9 O2 sensors at 130$ back then, made china a pretty penny across the country...as so many had the same issue.

Thank God, I got lucky! I was prepared to purchase the '18 last Friday for her after test drive, but the wife didn't like either of the top removal scenarios. The salesman struggled for for about 12 minutes putting the soft top back up correctly. That was the death nail.

Well anyway.... My 18' Lifted now with 35's about 16,500 on the clock - Love my Jeep. Wouldn't take my JKURHR back or a Tacoma or a Raptor.

Is anything Perfect? I'll leave that question for whomever to answer (It's No BTW)

Love isn't perfect either.

I'm gonna go have some ribs, Fresh sweet corn and some beer. I hope those ribs aren't bent this time....
