Kurgo makes a ramp for that purpose. I saw it here first, but I'm sure it's cheaper elsewhere

while I could coax my dog a 60lb WPG to eventually jump into or out of my jeep it wasn't sustainable. especially when out hunting where we could load up and unload a dozen times in a day.
add in the fact
most joint injuries (think ACL)that happen to working/sporting dogs occur when they are jumping off of something, usually a pickup tail gate.
you're basically rolling the dice every time your dog jumps out.

this is the laziest most trouble free design I have found

I wish they made something like that hitch step for the driver/passenger door.

I have two I can comment: an OttoStep to help my Furries get in the back (it hooks to the 2" receiver), and a Petloader when the hitch is used. I am VERY happy with both.

Petloader also has a narrower version. I took a five-steps model, and removed the last step in about 30 minutes - my current rig isn't lifted, but I wanted to be ready if a next vehicle is higher.

For pics about the whole setup, just head out to this Photo album - https://goo.gl/photos/1cTpW6XeCLgLT1hF8

Gonna be 9 years old next month.
Unlike his human companion, he gets better looking every year!

Linus! Last hunting season just out for a ride, another time with his first pointed pheasant and this spring on his birthday with "his" new cargo netting (of course, he jumped right up where he'd rather be when I wanted his picture, lol)! He loves the Jeep.

Had to stop by and look at the dogs in Jeeps. Mine is going through withdrawals since my Jeep is in the shop and I have a rental.
She normally gets to go for a Jeep ride daily.

Posted a thread a couple years back with my old dog and the ramp I used. Haven't needed it for the new copilot.

My new pup, Wrangler, took to riding in the Jeep like he was born for it. I like taking him with my grandson and I to the lake to throw rocks, smell stuff, and relax. Good times

New dog is a maniac

The new pup is all over the place. After my many rotations around the sun, and letting go of my good boy of 13 years, it's a real deal to contain an energetic and capable young dog again. Have been fortunate to have had such easy to train dogs for so many years, but this one is testing me.

He's a great little dude and I have a lot of fun with him at the dog park but he goes semi-feral when at state parks and it does piss me off a bit. Just today was heading toward the peninsula of Washington state after getting off the Edmonds/Kingston ferry and took my usual rest stop at Salsbury Point boat launch before crossing the Hood canal bridge where he took off into the trees while I was chatting with a guy at the boat dock.

https://www.google.com/maps/@47.8539...6087888,16.51z

To be honest, I don't really blame him. Running wild through the trees and underbrush must be a blast. From rabbits to chipmunks to squirrels and other little prey, it must be a fun thing for a hunter with such a strong nose. I get it. But. It still ticks me off when they don't listen.

I'm at my moms place in Port Townsend for the night then onward to Long Beach for some aired down sand driving. This will be new for this little poop machine and I'm sure he's going to be stoked.

Since this little dude is so enthusiastic I decided to get some road gear. Probably should have done it for the dogs in the past, but honestly, we weren't thinking about dog meat missiles back then.

Here's a few pics of the harness strapped to the rear cross member that allows him to 1) lay down on his custom built bed on the 60 of the 60/40. The shorty is laid down. 2) allows him to get up in the copilot seat but not get out too damn far. Also can halve it to keep him in the back so I can concentrate on driving.

Came in handy when driving through Beaver Valley tonight. No joke. That's the name. He was getting to be too much so I pulled over and halved his movement. He still got the passenger rear window for fun.

Built a wood frame for the 60 side and put a couple moving blankets down to balance out the tilt then topped with a costco bed. The jeep is way dirtier now than the day I took these pics and I cannot confirm nor deny any of the rumors regarding my whereabouts.

That goofy smile on him and my grandson you can't see in the back seat sure do make it good. We were at the lake throwing rocks, sniffing grass, and peeing in the bushes....good times.
