1948 to 2012

My first Jeep was a like new 1948 that I gave $500. for in 1952. I loved it and would like to get another one now. The salesman never mentioned the new 2012 model (3.6 engine that gets 23 mpg) when I took a test drive in a 2011 this morning. I loved the 6 speed (quite unlike the 3 speed on my 48).
I do have a question. What is the rule of thumb in pricing 2012's ? I have no experience in what Jeeps go for. The salesman told me there were no discounts off of MSRP because of demand.

Your dealer lied to you about the price. I have not heard anyone, thanks to the knowledgable folks here, having pay MSRP. There is an invoice price that is cheaper than MSRP. And, again, thanks to the awesome folks in the know here, it doesn't seem like anyone is even paying that lower price, they are usually getting 1-2% under that invoice price.

Of course saying that, my local dealer said he would sell to me for invoice + $500. But I haven't started to haggle yet, and it doesn't include my cable company employee discount. Said that couldn't be worked out until it arrived at the dealership. Oh well, whatever, I know I'll be thrilled with the Jeep +- a couple of hundred dollars here or there.

Thank all of you for the timely information. You have educated me quite well on purchasing a Wrangler.
