About to take the plunge . . .

I am currently the owner of an '07 Compass, which I love. BUT. . . My son just got a 2011 Wrangler, and I so love the drive I am on the verge of going for a 2012.
The thing that held me back in '07 was the concern about carrying my canoe on the top for which the Compass is wonderful.
Meanwhile I have done some research and find Kargo Master has the Congo Cage and Lange Originals has a rack which mounts to front windshield and spare tire.
Wondering if any Wrangler veterans could give me any advise before I make the plunge. Are these racks very noisy? The rack bar over the sunroof in my Compass creates such wind noise I cannot use the sunroof with the bar on.
I was told by somebody that they just strap their canoe to the hard top (using swimming pool noodles between the top and canoe) without any difficulty.
On the verge
