Best Jeep for my fiancee for $5000

My fiancee has always wanted a Jeep. Always. She thinks it would be cool to have a convertible, they ride high, are rugged and people generally look more attractive in them. Me, I just want to make her happy.
All that said I will be the one maintaining this new to us Jeep, so which would be cheaper, the YJ or the TJ? Anything I need to be mindful of looking at either model? Also, is there a big difference in how either drive? How about the interior? Is the four or six cheaper to maintain, does one wear out faster? And finally, how hard is it to remove a hard top? She wants one that SHE wants, so price isn't so important but $5000 is about the limit. Color is, and so is the condition of the interior. AC is a must.
We will probably be traveling to pick one up because they just seem to be way to expensive around St. Louis, maybe Chicago for a weekend or Iowa, they seem the cheapest there.
I have bought many cars before, I don't want one with any rust or anything that's not completely stock, I prefer to buy off some who just uses it for transportation and hasn't taken it off road. Of coarse a one owner who kept all maintenance records and is willing to sell cheap would be nice too.
Thanks, I will be trolling CL and hopefully have one in about a month so she can enjoy it a little this summer.

Welcome and enjoy the forum! The YJ is in that price range and the TJ will be a lot higher.
