Checking in from the great white north aka Alaska

Hello all,

My wife and I recently joined the wrangler club. I had a buddy that got a tj and I had really always wanted a wrangler but I was waiting a couple years to pick up an unlimited rubicon. He took me wheeling one day and I was hooked.

We looked at the books and we sold our 08 grand cherokee srt8. That thing was a blast but I have already had more fun in the rubi. I love it to death and so does the wife. Our purchase forced my buddy with the tj's wife to buy the same thing in silver. The club is growing.

I have already sold off a bunch of parts from the other jeep and my challenger and truck. Just for jeep mods. Have a warn 9000i paid for and in transit. Have a fully dressed rugged ridge xhd front bumper waiting on the winch to get here. CB was mounted on the first day. Picking up the high flat fenders with my mopar bucks. Looking at skid protection and a mild lift next.

Hope to stick around a long time. Plenty of hummer hunting to do. My wife is bagging them left and right. Look forward to getting to know the regulars.

Thanks partner. Now I know why all the wrangler drivers I used to drive by were always smiling. It really is a lifestyle.

Well thanks for the warm welcome guys. You asked for pics and you got it. It won't look this stock for long.

First night home

First hummer five minutes after the first pic

Much better looking with a coat of mud

Hanging out with it's TJ cousin

The cousins hanging out with the rest of the herd before they are let out in the wild

Out on the trail next to some old gold mining equipment

Out on some tailing piles taken off the TJ's tire

Me getting my flex on without lockers engaged or sway disconnected.

You can make it further with all the good buttons pushed.

Last but not least is a photochop to give me an idea what black wheels and black doors will look like. Doing the doors in the next month or so. Might do the hood as well. Not sure yet.

<Laughing>...... I would be "the buddy" that got him hooked..... I didn't want to be the only one hooked on "jeep crack" Ha Ha.

It's just nice to know that I'm not alone when someone mentions jeep mod and I get that twinkle frosty look in my eyes and drool starts to drip from my mouth and then I start reaching for my wallet.

It was a little tough. They are impressive on the road but I don't really miss it all that much.

Glad to be here. Born and raised and what better place to own a wrangler. There is an endless supply of wheeling fun to be had up here. On our last outing I actually heard the phrase "were gonna die" muttered from the back seat. I happened to be crawling my way down a creek bed with the water starting to get a little high for my comfort and apparently the passenger. Not to mention that creek had no exits for awhile and it was full of the biggest rocks I have yet to crawl on. It was a wild ride but fun as can be. Lots of grinding noises coming from the undercarriage but I took my time and picked my lines and tried to put all the rocks where they would hit something designed for it and I came out completely unscathed. Hearing "were gonna die" from the back was worth it all by itself.

The tanana valley.

I'm in Fairbanks but we do plan on coming south for some wheeling trips.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

Probably a little warmer down there. I grew up in North Pole. I hate Anchorage too. I go down for work sometimes and can't wait to get home. Can't blame a fella for following the money.

You might think the weather would be warmer but the summer is akin to Seattle, 60 degrees and rain every day. I miss the warm dry Fairbanks summers where you could hit the trails or the pipeline every day. Winters are wet and mild which is a nice change. I have to say that I dont miss warming up the Jeep @ 0600 with -50 temps!

I like the summers up here when it isn't smoked out from one of the billion forest fires. I would like it more if the winters were warmer like that of southern AK. I would just find something else to bitch about then I bet. We have autostarts and a garage so we don't have to worry about warming up anything but you still have to drag your butt out there and the cab is warm but nothing else is. Last winter we had a bunch of days where it would snow a bunch at -20 and then drop to -50 overnight. Brushing that much snow in -40 or -50 sucks.

Agreed, there is always something to bitch about up here...too much dark/light/cold/mosquitos etc... Its hard to complain with vistas like this (Hatcher Pass again).
