CJ to TJ

Hello from El Paso. I've owned 3 different CJs over the past 20+ years or so and after selling the last one in 2004, I decided I wanted to get back into it again. I was going to get another CJ, but decided functional air conditioning, fuel injection, and coil suspension easily trumped keeping another classic on the road.

I found a 2000 TJ in my neighborhood and couldn't pass it up. The PO bought it bone stock about 2 years ago, dumped a bunch of money into it, then knocked up his bride. He outfitted it up pretty much the way I wanted so it was an easy buy. I just happened to come across it a few hours after he posted it up on craigslist.

She's got 154,000 miles on the clock, but runs strong and smooth. Only issues are I might be looking at are a new transmission - it feels like the syncros might be gone in 1st and 2nd and 3rd is pretty sloppy - and the engine makes a ticking noise under a load that is driving me nuts. Given what I've learned so far from the forum, I think I've narrowed it down to the exhaust manifold or the OPDA. It's completely silent at idle, but I can feel the tapping/ticking on the OPDA when I put a finger on it. More to follow. Otherwise, she's good to go.
