Cummins 6BT Wrangler

Afternoon everyone!
I'm 'The Wrongler' from Manchester UK, so called coz I've a Wrangler TJ which I've just finished converting to Cummins 6BT power....mwah ha haaaa…..
I've been told and told and told again to post it here and well.....it's either that or do my accounts so here I am.
Anyone else out there done the same?
I have to say I'm not disappointed, it's a stonking engine and after a couple of thousand miles of bedding in it hasn't even snapped the wheels off!!!
The chassis is well up to the weight, the back axle takes the power ok and if I drive it like a truck, using the torque and changing up every 10 metres, it gives better economy than the original 4 litre. Though that's not hard.
If I survive adding a HX52 turbo to it I might do a 9 litre Paccar conversion next.
Anyone else tried that one or is it still the stuff of my dreams and my wife's nightmares?...….
Cheers All
Wrongler

Wow a 6BT. How is the vibration as compared to the petrol engine?

Not bad thanks, 6 cylinders are good and I used industrial Anti-Vibration mounts for the engine, standard lorry gbox mounts for the gearbox.

Next time I think I'll use gbox mounts all round for the security.

Vibration is mainly just tunable by how much of the massive grunt you want to use. The torque is massive so I end up using that and no gearchanges.

Would love to know how this is working out for you

I am in the middle of a stupid project myself.

4 Dr TJ. Body and frame all done working on suspension and drivetrain now.

I have a built Cobra Jet 429 to put in it, but tranny options Are horrible for a balance of off road and highway with 40’s.

Have been reading up swapping a 05-07 Cummins 5.9 with the 6 speed manual tranny and transfer case. Wondering if tranny would be close enough for me to operate?

What tranny did you use?
I know the engine is only 4 inches longer - but the 6 speed tranny longer for sure.
Did you have to modify your firewall?

I have all emissions waived here in NC. They are considering my project a “custom hot rod” and not a Jeep. When finished they are retitling it as a “2020 custom”. So all of those emission concerns are removed. I just need it to fit, and to run - lol

Any pictures you have of you fit would be great.

What did you do with springs to compensate for the additional weight?

Thank you for any help you can offer.
