DFW Texas 2005 TJ Project

Hi all! I've had an account here before but it was well over a decade ago, couldn't remember the name or email associated.

This is my second Jeep, I had a 2001 Sport long ago that was totaled and I've always wanted to get back into a Jeep since.

For the longest time I wanted to do a project Jeep, not for crawling but more of a daily driver/pleasure weekend cruiser. I originally wanted to start with a 86 CJ-7, but over the years they've either become far too expensive for the condition they are in, or absolute rust buckets. I loved the diagonal rear bars on the CJ's, so my hope is to modify a TJ to look similar (I don't plan on rear passengers anyway, except occasionally one that barks).

So I've found a 2005 TJ Rocky Mountain edition that was in great shape, with upgraded tires and the bumpers and side steps I wanted to end up with. Only issues was the rear pinion, I planned on getting a regear anyway so that didn't bother me as much. Salvage title, but only 55k miles on it and it's been driven 30k miles since it had it's wreck 3 years back, and the frames nice and straight. Bought it on the cheap so now I have more money to put into it!

Anyhow, the project was to end up with a unique looking Jeep, one that can have the soft top left down and the doors off, with the ability to hose off the interior, seats, and maybe even a sealed dash for quick clean up. I plan to replace or dress up nearly everything, exterior, interior, engine bay, and undercarriage. Eventually in a few years, a 5.3L and 4L60E salvage pull and upgrade, but that would be the last thing.

Anyway, can't wait to do some reading, trading, hopefully not too ignorant questions!
