Cool Electrical issues on 1987 Wrangler/ YJ

Im new to the site but i have been trying to resolve an issue with my left rear running light. i changed the switch to the head light and interior lighting, the running lights are also on the same curcuit as the interrior lights, the right rear running light illuminates but the driver side does not, i tried different, bulbs in it, i took the whole light off and plugged it into the passenger side and it still did not come on, i checked the wiring on the passenger side and found the wire that the current was going through and tested it on the other side at the connection and there was power, i then tried in the bulb socket and could not get a reading, so i cut the cut the wire half way to the light and tested it with the multimeter and there was power, is there something wrong with the socket it self? but the wierd thing is both brake lights work, and turning signals, just not the running light, its got me stumped. any help would be great i dont know where to go from the 3 hours i spent trying to figure out what was wrong, thanks sam
