Finally Back!

I have finally been able to rejoin the club of owning a Jeep after a LONG 6 year absence. But, I've gotten myself into something that I didn't expect, a 4 cylinder, 5 speed, '87 YJ. The Jeeps not in good shape and much of it is in pieces. It came with a new fiberglass tub and plastic tubs of new new parts. I really want to be able to create a vehicle that I can drive daily, when needed, yet also take into the Sand Dunes at the Silver Lake State Park Off-Road Vehicle area near Lake Michigan. With all of the problems with the '87, weak trans and axles being the first, I'm not sure where to start. Sure, I'd love to put in a chevy 350/turbo-hydro 350 combination feeding Dana 44's but that's way out of my budget.

I can weld, rebuild the engine, and am not concerned about placing the tub with proper reinforcements but the drivetrain really has me wondering where to start? So, I'm hoping that the experienced YJ people here can help direct me toward a reliable and capable Jeep.

Thank you to all who want to help. (Pictures will follow as the rebuild begins.)
