Way back in the 80's (High School) I had a 1970 CJ5 and ran that until it was in need of more TLC than I could afford at the time so I sold it to a friends father who had the time (and money) to restore it.
I then spent the next few cars bouncing around from car to truck to sporty car to truck etc... In 1997 my wife leased a green Wrangler and we loved it. Sadly it started having issues near the end of the Lease so we just turned it in and began the car/truck/car hopping cycle again.
I bought a Prius (I know, the Anti-Jeep) about 5 years ago when gas hit almost $5/gal and I was filling up a 4dr Tundra for about $100/tank. I was commuting about 1hr-1hr15min one way to work and back daily so it made sense to go more practical than fun. 2 years after that decision I got to start working from home full time and haven't been into an office in 3 years.
2yrs ago I went to Training for work and had to fly to Dallas and rent a car. I had 3 other guys with me so I simply requested a bigger vehicle. The guy said "I put you in a 4dr Wrangler, is that ok?" I said sure and thats when the Jeep Bug Bit me again. I was back in heaven. I drove that rental everywhere I could think of. Sometimes just because I wanted to ride around. It was pure bliss. Last year I had more training so I made sure that Avis had a 4dr Wrangler waiting on me when I landed. Again, pure bliss. So, after only using the Prius for errands and trips for the past 3 yrs and watching it become a bird-poop target in the driveway, I traded it this weekend.
Yup, that's right! I'm finally back in the Jeep Game. I bought a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Sport this past weekend and I couldn't be happier.
OMG it's incredible.
I got a Black, 6-speed manual w/ upgraded 18" wheels, side bars, tail-light brush guards, and tow package. Besides the tires, the addons aren't that bad to just add after market but I figured WTH, start with a few then upgrade/replace later on.
After squeezing myself into a Prius for 5 years its nice to finally have a vehicle that fits me again.
I'm looking forward to learning all about the Jeep again through everyones experiences and postings.
