Geezer Considering JL

Hi, folks. I'm starting to look seriously at the JL. In my four-plus decades of driving and riding motorcycles, I've owned everything from VWs to Porsches to a Chevy Suburban. I had a 2012 Grand Cherokee Overland 5.7 for five years, putting around 140,000 miles on it in that time. It was a great vehicle for a time period when we were building our cabin in SW Wisconsin, but I traded for a VW Golf R. A tremendous car with fantastic on-road performance, but too small for my current needs since we've added a big-ass golden retriever to the family and make frequent trips back and forth between the Chicago metro area and Prairie du Chien, WI.

The JL has been creeping up in my personal rankings because it offers a bit more cargo room and versatility. I'm focusing on the Sahara because of the availability of SelecTrac, but also find myself waffling about going back to a Grand Cherokee. Loved the 5.7 and it was a comfortable, sophisticated vehicle with a fair amount of versatility.

Color me conflicted. I'll be perusing and posing (perhaps stupid) questions as I try to figure this out.

Only suggestion is to test drive both! A loaded Sahara and a well optioned GC will run you about the same $$$$$ so it comes down to personal preference.

There are many of us here that came from sports car backgrounds, me included. The wrangler is a perfect fit for this season of my life. My kids are moving on, the wife and I need a hobby together that will also accommodate our dog This Jeep allows us to go anywhere, any time and take our dog. These last few years we've had more time together sitting around camp fires than the rest of our marriage combined.

And it all started because she needed an SUV and a friend said "why not get a Jeep?" LOL

Good luck with your decision!!

Just remember, all good things come in time..

I came from the Harley and Corvette world..but once I got into Jeeps, I never looked back..
