George

Hi, my name is George Rivera from Humacao Puerto Rico, I drive a 2015 Jeep Wrangler 4 door Unlimited with a 3.6 liter engine. After running the car for 64000 miles the check engine lit up with code P0303 which is specific to cylinder number 3. I did the following, changed all spark plugs, checked spark plug wiring, interchanged the coil from cylinder 1 to 3, cleaned fuel injectors 1,3, and 5, checked the compression and cylinder 1 gives 60 psi, cylinder 3 gives 58 psi and cylinder 5 gives 60 psi. I cleaned the MAF and MAP sensors. The jeep hesitates when cold and after a few minutes of running, the jeep drives perfectly. Mileage is good, performance on the road is good. I erased the code with the OBD II and the check engine lit up again with code P0303. The jeep was scanned by a mechanic and he told me that all injectors are running well and that the jeep on cold hesitates a bit and when hot it works good. The mechanic recommended a valve cleaner (liqui moly valve cleaner) and to switch to premium gas. Can any shed some light on this issue. I will appreciate. I am a Jeep lover.

Hello George. Welcome to the forum!! I used to be a vehicle mechanic many years ago before I decided that I wanted to retire sooner than that field would allow. What this mechanic told you makes sense to me. If EVERYTHING ELSE is checking out as functioning 100% good, the only thing left is that possibly, #3 cylinder is building up carbon up faster than the other cylinders. I am not sure if there are any highways in PR where you can 'Open Her Up' and blow the carbon out, but there are other ways to do that. My wife's jeep goes 3 miles to work and 3 miles home 4 days a week. She never gets the tach up over 3k. That alone is building up carbon. I try to use this jeep to make our weekend shopping trips just to be able to run it up to full operating temps and get it up to close to higher RPM's, not necessarily red line though. Running the premium gas will also help in cleaning the combustion chambers. I am not sure I would run a liquid valve cleaner though. Sometimes these items are just gimmicks and do more damage than good. Octane booster are famous for building up crud and coatings in the combustion chamber. I would run the premium fuel for 3-4 tank fulls and taker her out and stretch her legs.
